What's wrong with the inconsistent wear of the left and right brake pads?

[Catalog:News] [Date:2021-7-14] [Hits:] [Return]

The first thing to say is that as long as there is not a big difference in the wear of the left and right brake pads, it is normal. We should know that the force and speed of the four wheels are different on different roads and curves, and the braking force is also different. Therefore, it is normal for the brake pad to be worn with deviation.

In addition, most of the ABS systems of today's cars are equipped with EBD (electronic braking force distribution), and some of them are equipped with ESP (electronic body stability system) as standard. The braking force of each wheel is "distributed on demand".

1、 Working principle of brake pad

Each wheel brake pad is composed of inner and outer two pieces, which are connected by two telescopic rods. When the brake is stepped on, the two brake pads hold the brake disc. When the brake is released, the two brake pads move to both sides along the telescopic rod and leave the brake disc.

2、 The reason why the wear of left and right brake pads is inconsistent

1. The speed of wear is directly related to the material of brake disc and brake pad, so uneven material of brake pad is a possibility;

2. When turning and braking frequently, the forces on the left and right wheels are unbalanced, which will also lead to inconsistent wear;

3. The brake disc on one side may be deformed;

4. The return of the brake cylinder is inconsistent, for example, the return bolt of one side of the cylinder is dirty;

5. There is a big difference between the length of left and right brake oil pipes;

6. The telescopic rod is sealed by a rubber sealing sleeve, but if there is water or lack of lubrication, the rod can't expand freely, and the outer pad after the brake can't leave the brake disc, so the brake pad will be extra worn;

7. The braking time of the left and right brakes is inconsistent;

8. Suspension problems;

It can be seen that in general, this situation should be caused by insufficient unilateral braking or unilateral drag. If the wear of two brake pads of the same wheel is uneven, it is necessary to check whether the brake pad materials are consistent, whether the return of the brake cylinder is good, and whether the cylinder bracket is deformed. If the wear between the left and right wheels is uneven, it is necessary to check whether the braking time of the coaxial left and right brakes is the same, whether the suspension is deformed, whether the suspension underbody is deformed, and whether the spring force of the suspension coil is decreased
