How To Choose Brake Pads

[Catalog:News] [Date:2021-7-9] [Hits:] [Return]

Every car owner will encounter braking problems, and every car will experience the replacement of brake pads. Every consumer feels that they don't know how to choose the brake pads. They feel that there are many kinds of brake pads, and there are so many different opinions on the Internet that they can't start—— It suddenly occurred to me that it would be better for me to sort out the "development time axis" of all kinds of brake pads on the market.

There are many kinds of brake pads

But there is only one "ancestor": asbestos

In the history of mankind, asbestos brake pads were first widely used. It's cheap and easy to use, but it turns out that it causes cancer! So after 2015, China has basically disappeared. As a result, several other "non asbestos" products are left in the brake pad industry. It can be roughly divided into "metal" and "Nao"

In the history of mankind, asbestos brake pads were first widely used. It's cheap and easy to use, but it turns out that it causes cancer!

Modern brake pads are mainly divided into two categories

Metal, Nao

First of all, we will talk about relatively simple "metals": the brake pads directly made of steel velvet are "semi-metallic" ones. Because there is a lot of steel wool, so the heat dissipation effect is the fastest, can resist high temperature. Violent use, even continuous use of violence, can stand up to it.

But the friction coefficient of this kind of brake pad itself is not high, so it needs a larger caliper pressure to obtain the braking force equivalent to other brake pads. And the steel velvet directly scrapes the cast iron brake disc, to be honest, the wear of the disc is also big, and the sound is relatively unpleasant.

Nowadays, car owners are very concerned about the noise, and your brake disc is easy to scratch, so it's hard for anyone to accept it. So it's hard for us to buy semi-metallic pieces in the retail market nowadays. Instead, "low metal" pieces—— As the name suggests, it is the formula after "reducing the amount of steel velvet".

Although "Nao" is called "asbestos free organic brake pad", in fact, in China, it refers to "asbestos free and steel velvet free brake pad"—— To put it bluntly, it is to use other materials to replace asbestos and steel velvet as "skeleton". So NAO is a huge family.

According to the different skeleton materials used, it can be divided into:

——Ordinary mixed fiber sheet (mixture of carbon powder, glass fiber, Kevlar, etc. + resin)

——Graphite fiber sheet (domestic unscrupulous businessmen usually call it "carbon fiber" sheet, but it has nothing to do with "carbon fiber")

——Ceramic fiber sheet

——Graphite fiber ceramic fiber composite sheet

Performance characteristics of various "Nao"

"Ceramic chip" actually belongs to "Nao" family

"Ordinary hybrid fiber" is very cheap, often cheaper than the affordable "low metal" (although this product is also the NAO family's), poor heat resistance, not suitable for violent driving. The friction coefficient is often low (mostly EF level), so it needs to step on the brake more vigorously, and it is not wear-resistant. This kind of brake pad is cheap, so it is generally not recommended.
