What is the cause of eccentric wear on the brake pads on both sides of the vehicle? How should we solve it?(2)

[Catalog:News] [Date:2023/5/26] [Hits:] [Return]

Many times, the brake pads not only need to be replaced due to eccentric wear, but also need to find the cause and carry out targeted repairs. What are the common reasons for eccentric wear of the brake pads on both sides of a vehicle?
1. The brake pad materials are different.
This situation often occurs in vehicles where one side of the brake pad has been replaced. Due to the different brands of brake pads used, there may be differences in material and performance, resulting in different brake pad losses under the same frictional force.
terms of settlement:
When replacing brake pads, try to choose original accessories or choose accessories that are made of the same material and performance.
It is recommended to replace both brake pads at the same time, not just one side. Of course, if the thickness difference between the two sides is ≤ 3mm, only one side can be replaced.
2. Vehicles often run in curves.
This belongs to the normal category of wear and tear. When the vehicle turns, under the action of centrifugal force, the braking force on both sides of the wheels is naturally inconsistent.
terms of settlement:
Vehicles that frequently take turns need to increase the frequency of maintenance and repair. If the thickness difference between the brake pads on both sides is significant, it is necessary to replace the brake pads in a timely manner.
In the long run, if the budget is sufficient, it is recommended that car owners choose to install an auxiliary braking system to reduce the wear rate of brake pads and extend their service life.

3. Unilateral brake pad deformation.
In this case, abnormal wear is highly likely to occur.
Solution: Replace the deformed brake pads.
4. Inconsistent return of the brake wheel cylinder.
When the return position of the brake wheel cylinder is inconsistent, there may be a situation where the car owner releases the brake pedal and the braking force cannot be released within a few seconds. Although the friction force on the brake pads is relatively small at this time, it is not easy for the car owner to feel it, but in the long run, it will lead to excessive wear on the brake pads on this side.
terms of settlement:
The causes of the return problem of the slave cylinder are generally divided into two types: the guide pin is stuck and the piston is stuck. When replacing the brake pads, only lubrication is needed to solve the problem. It is recommended to clean all the original grease and dirt, and then reapply lubricating grease.
When the piston is stuck, you can use a tool to push the piston to the innermost position, then gently press the brake to push it out, and cycle three to five times. This will allow the grease to lubricate all the channels of the slave pump. If the piston is not stuck, it indicates that the slave pump has returned to normal. If the operation still feels not smooth, then it is necessary to replace the slave cylinder.

5. The braking time of both brakes is inconsistent.
The inconsistent braking duration of the brakes on both ends of the same axle is also one of the reasons for brake pad wear, usually caused by uneven braking clearance, air leakage in the brake pipeline, and inconsistent brake contact area.
terms of settlement:
Immediately check if there is any air leakage in the brake pipeline.
Recalibrate the brake clearance on both sides.
6. Water ingress or lack of lubrication on the telescopic rod.
The telescopic rod is sealed by a rubber sealing sleeve. When it enters the water or lacks lubrication, the rod cannot freely retract, causing the brake pads to not immediately return after braking, causing additional wear and eccentric wear.
terms of settlement:
Maintain the telescopic rod, drain water, and add lubricating oil.
7. The brake oil pipes on both sides are inconsistent.
There are differences in the length and thickness of the brake oil pipes on both sides of the vehicle, resulting in inconsistent wear of the brake pads on both sides.
terms of settlement:
Replace the brake oil pipe with the same length and diameter width.
8. Suspension issues have caused brake pad wear.
For example, deformation of suspension components, deviation of suspension fixed position, etc., can easily affect the wheel end angle and toe in value, leading to the vehicle chassis not being on a flat surface and causing brake pad eccentric wear.
Solution: Repair or replace the suspension.
