Do the brake pads and discs need to be replaced together

[Catalog:News] [Date:2022-6-8] [Hits:] [Return]

The brake pads and discs do not need to be replaced together. Generally, one set of brake disc needs to be replaced every two sets of brake pads are replaced. The replacement cycle of brake pads is generally 60000-80000 km, while the replacement cycle of friction discs is 100000-120000 km.

When the brake is pressed, the brake fluid is pressed from the master brake cylinder to the slave cylinder, which pushes the brake pads to rub with the brake disc to generate braking force and form the brake. The force on the brake pad and the brake disc is the same, but due to their different materials, thickness and stress area, the degree of wear is also different, so the replacement cycle is also different.

  1. the thickness of the brake pad is about 11mm. The main material is metal fiber, which is composed of friction material, thermal insulation layer, adhesive, back plate and silencer. It is recommended to replace it if it is less than 6mm. It must be replaced if it is less than 3mm;

2. the thickness of the brake disc is about 20mm. The main material is steel. The replacement cycle of the brake disc is about 80000 km. When the brake disc is blued, deeply grooved, unevenly worn, cracked, etc., it is necessary to replace the brake disc. There is a limited minimum thickness on the brake disc. If the minimum thickness is reached or exceeded, the brake disc can be used continuously, which can cause deformation, distortion and shake cracks, which will affect the braking performance. In serious cases, the brake will fail;

3. the brake pad is approximately a 6-sided shape, and the brake disc is a ring with an area 6-7 times that of the brake pad;
