Why is the braking distance longer when the brake pads are replaced with new ones

[Catalog:News] [Date:2022-5-20] [Hits:] [Return]

The wear degree and thickness of new brake pads are different from those used. After the used brake pad and brake disc are run in, the indirect contact surface between them is large, and there will be many irregularities on the brake pad with strong braking force; The surface of the new brake pad is relatively smooth, and the contact surface with the brake disc is small, the braking force will decrease, and the braking distance will become longer.

Therefore, after replacing a new brake pad, it needs to go through a period of running in to achieve the best braking effect. The following small series introduces a method of running in brake pads:

1.After installation, find a place with good road conditions and few cars to start running in; 2. Accelerate the car to 60 km / h; 3. Gently step on the brake to reduce the vehicle speed to 10km / h-20km / h; 4. Release the brake and drive for several kilometers to reduce the temperature of the brake disc and brake pad; 5. Repeat steps 2-4 at least 10 times.

The running in method of the new brake pad is to use the method of fractional and intermittent braking as far as possible, and try not to brake hard before running in. Be sure to drive carefully during running in to avoid accidents.
